Riffs and marginalia

As indicated, back to the more mundane but equally important realm of the blog after the recent Alito digressions.

  • E Street Radio is up and running on Sirius. So far, I’m impressed with the nightly full live performances that are being aired. I’ve also heard several nice few rarities and individual live cuts. I don’t know if Bruce 24/7 for a couple months isn’t going to get somewhat repetitive but so far gets it a high rating.
  • The latest issue of PW Booklife has an interesting article asking, Is Jon Stewart the Next Oprah? This is from the vantage point of publishers and authors. Stewart is remarkably bipartisan in his book interviews and between his popularity and the range of authors he has on this does look like a fertile ground for the book world.
  • Here’s one I’d like to see on The Daily Show. Via Conversational Reading, I learned of a new book called Festivus: The Holiday for the Rest of Us. I’ve yet to see a review but note it has a foreword by Father Festivus himself, Jerry Stiller. Just remember to mark your calendars for Dec. 23.
  • Although I haven’t heard it yet, JazzPortraits seems very down on Chris Botti’s new CD. Botti is slated to appear here in March as part of the Jazz & Blues Society concert series. The series opens tomorrow night with the Hot Club of San Francisco.
  • Google Print evidently goes live today with a bunch of public domain books. The Official Google Blog serves up some details.

The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances. I got a lot of problems with you people! And now you’re gonna hear about it!

Frank Costanza (Jerry Stiller)

Re: Chris Botti - I think it’s a really nice disc, extremely well crafted music, but there’s simply not much “jazz” happening. It’s very safe, but that’s ok. Just because I might not choose something for airplay, doesn’t mean that it’s not “good” - just that it might not fit our particular format.
