State and local political notes

  • It appears the JAILers have presented enough signatures to get their measure on the 2006 ballot. South Dakota War College guesstimates the paid signature collection effort cost about $75,000. Even if it’s half or one-quater of that, it still begs the question of from where or whom the money is coming.
  • No earthquake or other disaster struck Sioux Falls around the lunch hour today even though matter and antimatter met. In fact, I can only describe my 90-minute lunch with Joel Rosenthal, former head of the state GOP and current Straight Talk blogger, as very enjoyable. Despite our political differences, Joel and I have exchanged e-mails for a while and decided it was time to meet face to face. The discussion was wide-ranging and interesting — so much so that we will undoubtedly do it again in the not too distant future. Not only was Joel kind enough to buy lunch, he gave me a Kinky Friedman for Governor 2006 button. I, of course, forgot the token gift I intended to bring for him. Yet one more reason for another meet up.
  • Evidently the weekend rally was the kick-off. I saw my first “Vote Yes” on the proposed rec center yard sign just a couple blocks from home on my way to work this morning. The special election is Dec. 6. I’m leaning toward this one but still have serious reservations on the proposed location of the proposed events center.

  • The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

Your daughter will not be happy with anything less than full support of the new rec center.
