An order entered by the U.S. Supreme Court today assigned new Justice Samuel Alito to the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. (Via How Appealing). South Dakota is one of the seven states within the 8th Circuit. The assignment basically means Alito will be the justice who acts on applications that arise from the circuit, such as stays, and that he is the justice who attends to ceremonial functions in the circuit, such as appearing at the 8th Circuit Judicial Conference.
If err we must, let us err on the side of tolerance.
