South Dakota book notes

The South Dakota Center for the Book has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for The Big Read, a national program to encourage reading by asking communities to read and discuss one book. According to the news report, Brookings and Sioux Falls will read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

On a somewhat related note, the Center has posted a bit of info on its 2006 Festival of Books. From perusing the limited info so far, it looks like Marilynne Robinson, the author of the wonderful Pulitzer Prize-winning Gilead , will participate in the event, scheduled for Sept. 22-24 in Sioux Falls
