According to the BBC:
President George W. Bush told Palestinian ministers that God had told him to invade Afghanistan and Iraq – and create a Palestinian State, a new BBC series reveals.
A press release announcing a BBC Television series on the Middle East says Bush told the Palestinian prime minister and foreign minister:
“I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, ‘George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.’ And I did, and then God would tell me, ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …’ And I did.”
Funny, he didn’t say anything about that in his big speech today (registration may be required…or BugMeNot). It does bring to mind a prior entry on this blog about a poet noting that bin Laden also claims to be following instructions from Allah and maybe the two men aren’t quite understanding exactly what their deity is saying.
I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.
