I was somewhat disappointed that, for the first time in years, I wasn’t going to get to the WCHA Final Five hockey tournament, an NCAA regional or the Frozen Four itself. Fox Sports Net has come to my rescue, though. Not only is it televising all five WCHA games, it is also showing part of the CCHA Super Six tourney plus occasional highlights of other tournaments at intermissions. While much of the rest of the nation is adrift in the blather of NCAA basketball, it’s about time college hockey fans get the chance to watch qualifying tournaments for the NCAA tournament.
And each of games I’ve seen so far in the WCHA and CCHA tournaments (which at least three more on tap today and tonight) has involved at least one (and usually more) former Sioux Falls Stampede player. When you add in all the other USHL alumni playing in these tournaments, there’s a ton of players I’ve had the opportunity to see over the last few years, further feeding the college hockey addiction.
