As much as I love my wife and kids, this weekend has the potential to be absolutely wonderful. Oldest daughter is staying at college for the weekend. Middle daughter is playing in a volleyball tournament in the Twin Cities and rode up with the neighbor. Youngest daughter and wife are at a swim meet in Rochester, Minn. That means the dog and I have the house to ourselves.
How idle do we plan to be? Well, there’s Olympic hockey all weekend, both Gopher and Sioux hockey on TV tonight (and Saturday night) with first place in the WCHA on the line in the Minnesota games, and Stampede home games Saturday and Sunday night. But man and dog can not live on hockey alone. I’ve got three books for which I have reviews promised to publishers and Netflix and a stop at the local video store resulted in a stack of DVDs.
It looks like the weather is going to be cold enough that neither the dog nor I will have any reason to feel guilty about laying around by the fireplace. When a rare opporutnity like this presents itself — especially on a three-day weekend — I figure there may be something to karma.
Let me say to you now that to do nothing at all is the most difficult thing in the world, the most difficult and the most intellectual.
